I'm IT!

I've been tagged to share 6 interesting things about me. Hmmm, this might take a while. I don't know that I'm all that interesting, and I talk so much that most of you probably know most of this stuff about me. But, here it goes:

1. I'm extremely competative. It's mostly in sport things. I'm not competative about money, kids, etc. Once at a ward activity, I beat the entire elder's quorum at ping pong (while 6 months pregnant!).

2. I've been president.... of a club...... a swearing club- 3rd grade. I was president, and my best friend was vice-president. We were the only members. It was serious business. We sat in her room and said all the swear words we could think of. Bad news: our club became extinct after our first meeting. Good news: I haven't sworn since.

3. I love to dance. If there was an adult dance company, drill team, hip hop whatever- I would totally want to join. Not that I'd make it, but I love to dance and am known to break out at any given moment at home. Or at the store. Or anywhere there is music.

4. I love people easily. As soon as I meet someone, unless they freak me out, I really do feel like I have love for them.

5. I've been on a national kids show in Brazil. It was a huge kids show, and my older brothers and I got to be in it before we moved to the states. I was even picked from the audience to be the magician's assistant. Due to my extreme popularity, I sign autographs on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

6. I love sweet and condensed milk. (can you tell I'm desperate for something?). I can eat a whole can. Well, not that I've done it, but I'm sure I can.

Well, that is it. I think almost everyone I know has been tagged. I will leave a comment on your blog if I see you haven't done it.

Chit Chat

A few funny moments- mostly about Logan

This one is for my family to appreciate:
Logan has been talking to me a lot about "the smartest kid in his class" named Evan. Those of you who know Logan you know he is very competative. After telling me about this kid, he sat on the couch for a long time. I knew he was thinking hard about this (another thing he is always doing). After a while he said, "I just don't understand how the smartest kid in my class says he believes in aliens." (while shaking his head)

Last night I took the kids to the mall to see the big Christmas tree and to get giddy about Christmas. We noticed that there was hardly any line to go see Santa, so I asked the kids if they wanted to go. They were really excited, and a little nervous. Anyway I see Logan standing there just staring at Santa, his wheels turning. He comes over to me and says: "I can't believe that some people say they don't believe in Santa. I mean, look at him, he's sitting right in front of our eyes."

When the kids went to sit with Santa, there was room for both of them. Mariah walked up to Santa with her arms in the air already describing the doll (that has many features like play peek-aboo, blows kisses, responds to her name, etc) that she (and I) badly want for Christmas. She repeated herself over and over about the "doll that puts her arms up and says mamma". After about 5 times of her saying the same thing, Logan jumps in and says: "Well, that's not all she does." and he spends the rest of their time with Santa telling about all the things that this doll does. We ran out of time, so Logan as quickly told him that he would like an alarm clock, and our meeting with Santa was over. But I have no doubt he knows exactly what kind of doll he will be bringing to our house. And Logan is requesting another visit with Santa- this time to really talk about what he would like.

Happy Saturday

I just got home from doing a little volunteer work at Romney headquarters. I had a great time, except for realizing an hour into being there that I had been walking around with a candy bar wrapper dangling from my pa-dunka-dunk! I was so embarrassed. My job there was to make phone calls, and when I got voice mails, I had a script I had to read. So many times while I was reading the script, I would think about my embarassing moment and had to fight getting the giggle fits. I get those quiet often at most inconvenient times. Luckily I got control of myself and Mitt would be proud!

We don't have much news going on here- just living up the abnormally pleasant weather for this time of year. We are outside as much as possible. Logan is doing great at school- just had conferences with his teacher and I get teary eyed everytime because I'm just so proud of him. Mariah loves having "preschool" which I mostly do at home with her, and on Fridays we get together with some other moms and have a structured preschool/playdate. Harrison is saying some new words like, "shoe" and "cracker". He loves balls, and loves to wrestle. If anyone is laying down, he will attack.

Our family is really excited about a few "additions" to our family. We are a host family to 2 Drake students from Malaysia. We had them over for dinner last Monday to meet them, and we already love them. They are so polite and fun to be around. The kids loved them right away. We are excited to make lots of great memories with our new "kids". In all the excitement, I forgot to take pics of them. But we will get some up soon. Their names are Kenneth and Shie Meng Lim.

Oh, and ps- I finally read Harry Potter 7! You can call me now if you want to talk about it.

Here's a few pics from the past week:

It has been on Mariah's mind for a long time that she was ready for a "big girl bike". I know because she has asked me every day for a new bike since May. With Christmas approaching, I had been able to put her off a few more months because now she could ask Santa for a bike. The other day I ran to Goodwill with the kids looking for a costume for me and we saw it- the bike she had to have. She just went crazy over it and gave me that look. Logan took her side and assured me that dad would be okay with it. It was $4 and in perfect condition. I think Santa will understand, we just had to get it. Now that she has her bike, there's this one doll that she's just GOT to have....

As soon as we got home and cleaned the bike, I hear Logan: "Okay Mariah. Today we are going to talk about the basics of riding a bike" ........

...and he stuck with her faithfully, and she put up with it pretty well. Thanks to big bro, it didn't take her long to catch on and fly. Here is Mariah introducing her new bike:

This past week the flu came for a visit. It started with Harrison Monday night and knocked the rest of us out one by one. By Sunday we were all stir crazy. We decided to forget our worries and go "camping". It was just what we needed to cheer us up. Well, most of us.

We even kicked back and sat around the fire...

Life is good!

Halloween Video

Here's a little glimpse of the fun times on Beggar's Night. This video was kinda rushed... we had a house full of trick or treaters who were wanting their candy- now! We had a few families over for chili and chili dogs and other good eats. It was actually a warm enough night that they didn't need coats or jackets. It was wonderful (especially since it was my turn to do the walking this year!)

Lean on Me...Then Knock Me Over!

You know how you send your little one off to school, or think about someday sending them to school, and you worry about how the other kids will treat them? I think about it everyday as I drop my sweet boy off to school. The other morning, I felt prompted to ask Logan how things really are going at school. I ask how it is everyday, but I get the same answer, "good". Well, this morning I just had that feeling. So I chatted with him over breakfast about stuff, and then got to asking him about friends and how things are going socially. He said "fine." A while later while I was doing his hair, he said, "well, there is one thing that kinda bugs me. The kids are calling me shorty at school." So we had a little talk about how kids find something about everybody that they find different and say things that are hurtful sometimes, and so on. Then to lighten up the convo, I said, "Believe me. Kids had some mean things to say to me too sometimes. I mean, I was always so tall that they called me "amazon girl", and look at all these freckles on my face- I didn't like those at all." And then he says, "Oh, I'm glad that I'm just short, 'cause I sure hate freckles." (completely oblivious to the huge insult this was to me) Sheesh. Glad to make you feel better. Good thing I have a little more confidence now than I did in middle school, otherwise I'd be on the next flight home to go cry to my mommy.

Along the same lines, we've also been talking a lot about how we don't have to do what everybody else does. We need to do what's right, and what we like to do- not necessarily what everyone else might be doing- just be yourself, etc. So I had to chuckle when tonight at dinner I was trying to listen to Logan and Mariah tell me about their day, but was struggling to do so because Harrison was screaming bloody murder. I could hardly hear myself think. Finally I said, "I'm so sorry guys, I really want to hear what you have to say, but Harrison is making it very difficult." Logan said, "It's okay, at least he's just being himself. At least he's not trying to be quiet like every other baby his age." I'm glad to know that some things I say do sink in, but sometimes I think there are exceptions to the rules, eh?
