Sweetie Pie

Of all the names I call Mariah, I probably say "Sweetie Pie" the most.  It's so fitting.

Mariah is a lot like me.  She LOVES her girlfriends and all things social.  In fact, in first grade a tutor at the school told me, "I think Mariah is finally realizing that we come to school to work.  Kinder was all about sociality for her."

Hopefully she got it out of her system in Kinder, because it took until college for me to figure that one out.

Knowing and relating to her love of girlfriends, I was espescially touched one day when I took her out to lunch after a soccer game.  We met up with some teammates and as she sat and chatted with her girlies, I sat at a table by myself nearby.  Although a social creature myself, I am coming to relish in quiet moments more than ever before in my life.

Halfway through the meal my sweetie pie brought her sandwich and said that she wanted to sit with me.  Assuming something had gone wrong with her friends, I started to ask her what was going on.  Then quietly with watery eyes she said, "I saw you sitting here by yourself.  I don't want you to eat alone."

I was so touched that she would even notice that I was alone in the first place, but then to make the sacrifice to pull away from her fun and come sit with me was such an act of love.

I reassured her that I was just fine and that it brought me just as much joy to see her enjoying her friends, but she had made up her mind and we enjoyed the rest of our meal together.

Thank you Sweetie Pie.  You made my day!

Making Time for Quality Time

I can say hands down this is the busiest I have ever felt as a mom.  Every stage has its demands and is exhausting for sure.  But I have never felt time move so rapidly, nor have I fought for balance in my life so vigorously as I am now.

We are having a blast.  My children are my joy, my life.  They are becoming their own people and blow me away with their energy and talents.

I have also never felt so challenged, inadequate and humbled as I have this past year.  I have spent more time on my knees praying for these precious people.  I have spent even more time praying to know what to do, how to be the mom they need and deserve as they grow.  I have asked the Lord for forgiveness for my faults on a daily, sometimes hourly basis.

Basically what I'm saying is... I have no idea what I'm doing!

But I do know that I have a heart full of love and that any time I get with my favorite people is valuable.  And dangit, we do have fun!

Friday night patio dinner at a restaurant up the street.  Live music, perfect weather and company. A laid back night before jupming into a sport-booked Saturday.  6 games were played the next day.

In the thick of Tyler's crazy traveling and weeknight practices, scouts and music lessons- we cancelled all of our obligations on a Tuesday night and went to the movies.  Hotel Transylvania, "blah, blah blah blah blagh!"
A visit with my girl for lunch
First Kinder field trip.  This boy is beloved by his classmates. He makes a mother proud!
Taking advantage of a chilly Sunday morning to cuddle in mom and dad's room.
One of many road trips to away games.  Sharing good music and singing along with a friend. A simple thing that makes me smile.

Musicals and Mullets

Mariah had a Veteran's Day musical.  It was touching.  I am so happy that they are teaching our children all of the same patriotic songs that I learned growing up.  I may or may not have cried during, "You're a Grand Ole' Flag".  One thing that I love about Texas is they do not apologize or skirt around God and Country.

I never thought that when asked which child is mine that I would say, "oh, the one over there with the mullet." Isn't he hilarious!! This was Logan's first Orchestra concert, a Monster Concert.  I can't believe how 9 weeks ago he didn't know even know how to hold a violin, and now he can play a genuine hoe down.

Man, raising kids is so awesome!
